Columbia, MO– Job Point, a nonprofit organization that provides educational and vocational training and employment services in central Missouri, today announced it has received a $10,000 grant from the U.S. Bank Foundation. The grant will be used to help support young people who have not thrived in the traditional school setting, reclaim their education, earn a high school equivalency and learn a skilled trade in the process, increasing their earning power and future employment opportunities.
“Creating equitable opportunities for our community requires an all-hands-on-deck approach. There are so many young people in our community whose lives have been changed through this program. We appreciate the support from the U.S. Bank Foundation, which helps us continue to build and expand the innovative programs we’re proud to offer,” said John Scalise, President and CEO.
Through this grant, Job Point aims to empower older youth across the community, ages 16-19, who are not expected to graduate high school to complete their education and secure their future. By combining a unique blend of educational instruction and vocational training, these students will not only earn their high school equivalency, they will graduate with certificates in one of Job Point’s vocational programs in areas like health occupations, construction trades, and office technology. As they work through this program, students will also enhance their leadership, communication and job readiness skills through mentorship and service projects; improving their overall sense of self and well-being.
“Supporting the development of small businesses and a dynamic workforce is an investment in today and our future. We’re proud to work with organizations like Job Point to help provide pathways to higher education and build thriving communities,” said Kristen Polchinski, community affairs manager at U.S. Bank.
U.S. Bank is committed to powering human potential and creating lasting change in communities. The bank does this through the Community Possible platform, including philanthropy, community investments and team member volunteerism.
