Taking advantage of Job Point’s self-paced program and flexible schedule, Carla continues to work while taking her classes. She flies through the program, just like she knew she would, passing every test. Her budget is still tight and picking up extra shifts slows her progress at times. But thanks to a scholarship, the financial burden of pursuing higher education and changing her story, has not been a barrier.
The vast majority of Job Point’s students earn well below the poverty line. Whether they are unemployed, under-employed or in Carla’s situation – working full time – but barely able to make ends meet – finances are a huge barrier for most of our students. Higher education is a dream they dare not even consider.
